Darn It & Stitch

Hello there!

I'm popping in from my Happy Home Day (baking, crochet, music, tea, chocolate - it's cold, blustery and showery here so these things help keep my pecker up) to tell you all about the place where I work every Saturday.

I work in a little haberdashery (don't you just love that word?!) shop just off St Aldates in Oxford.  It is owned and run by the loveliest most delightful lady called Jo, who employs a small team of friendly, arty crafty creative types to look after it for her.

I am the Workshop Assistant.  I make sure that everything is clean and tidy and set up for each workshop, look after the person who's taking the workshop and ensure they have everything they need, and provide the attendees with sandwiches, cake, fruit, biscuits, and enough tea to sink a battleship!  And if the shop downstairs is quiet, I get to take part in the classes too - recently I've learned how to do patchwork, and also the art of lace-making which has been a particular highlight.

The workshops vary enormously - from beginners knitting to making friends with your sewing machine, and quilting through to making fascinators.  There really is something for everyone, and in my humble opinion it really is the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon, and make new friends at the same time!

More information can be found over on the Darn It & Stitch website and Facebook page, where there are links to the Pinworks page which lists all the workshops and details how to book a place.

Please hop over and take a look, it'd be lovely to see you at one of the classes!  And if those links aren't enough to whet your appetite for learning a new skill, then this selection of photos of the shop that I shall leave you with probably will be!

I'm off to bake some cupcakes now, ta-ra!

Much love,

Emmalemonade x x

  2. A huge hurrahhhh for habadashery!! I'm sure there used to be one on every high street in the days of 'make do and mend' and I feel warm and fuzzy when I hear of lovely ones like the one you work at! It is ribbon that really does it for me, bliss! I occasionally actually dream of haberdashery shops - says it all!!

  3. Oh, what beautiful photos! I love that you get to learn a bit from the workshops too, how fun. I'd never thought of calling my days in Happy Home Day - I like it! I do pretty similar things when I get the day off :D

  4. Emma, you really are cruel, hehe........you know there's no way I could ever 'pop in' and take part in one of the workshops.......

It does sound like the perfect job and I love all the pics. The sort of shop where you could mooch around for quite some time, looking at all the lovely things.

Cold, blustery, showery weather 'just perfick' shall swap you a warm and sunny day if you like....

  8. I discovered Darn It and Stitch last week during my half term break. Hubby works in Oxford (unlike me) so got sent there this week to further stock up. I loved it (and blogged about my entire oxford crafty shopping trip: http://mrsmmakes.wordpress.com/2012/06/08/crafty-shopping-in-oxford/
I wish I worked somewhere like Darn It &Stitch!
